Anita began her affiliation with Camarillo Hospice as a member of the Garden Tour committee in 2002. With her love of gardening and helping others it was a good fit. Following the death of her husband a year later, she attended one of the Camarillo Hospice Bereavement Support groups which eventually led her to an even deeper commitment to the organization when she joined the Board of Directors in January, 2006. Soon after she expanded her role to include Patient Care Volunteer which she continues to this day. Anita has often helped multiple families simultaneously and provided a much needed, compassionate presence in very difficult situations.
Anita can be somewhat fearless, in part due to her experiences as a teacher and nurse, raising 3 children and being widowed at a young age. She is always willing to help in the more challenging assignments, demonstrating her passion and commitment to serving others, her strong Catholic faith, and her overall love of people. In her words, “I understand how a serious illness, death and the grieving process affects family life.”
Anita can also be a quiet introvert, happy to create cohesion and trust by listening deeply and working steadily on behalf of those in her care, and even slightly uncomfortable with attention or being in the spotlight. Sorry about this Anita, but you truly deserve recognition for all you have done these past 15 years to help so many families facing challenges and to make Camarillo Hospice what it is today. We join your friends, family and those you’ve served to say, “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”
